A BIG thank you to Irene Wisdom for submitting photos of the Hiking Club's Christmas party, great to have a report with some photos. Mr Sclanders is going to have some competition when it comes to taking all the photo awards...

Mind you Dave hasn't been slacking either - take a look at his latest Newsletter 28. I was fascinated by the pic of the cloud banked up behind the Eastern Buttress, and the colours in the sunset pic (see below).
.

While browsing Dave's newletter I noticed he mentioned the Thukela Falls as being the second highest falls in the world - I double checked this fact and it is absolutely correct, this following extract is from Wikipedia:

"Tugela Falls are the world's second highest waterfall. The total drop in five free-leaping falls is 3,110 feet (947 meters). They are located in the Drakensberg (Dragon's Mountains) in the Royal Natal National Park in KwaZulu-Natal Province, Republic of South Africa. They are easily viewed after a heavy rain from the main travel road into the park, glistening from the reflection of the late afternoon sun. The source of the Tugela River (Zulu for 'sudden') is at Mont-Aux-Sources several kilometers from the escarpment from which the falls drop. The water is pure and safe to drink above the falls"

The Follow three pics come from links on the same Wikipedia page:
..

For comparison here is Dave's own pic of the falls:

Now if that isn't enough to make you want to hike right out there - imagine getting up real close to the second highest waterfall on our planet.
