Well done Denise Mastross on getting the MHC onto the Natal Witness LINK page with a pic from the Bushman's Nek Hike accompanied by her very informative writeup.

REACHING A MILESTONE
Our past chairman Dave Slanders website www.bergfree.co.za has reached a personal milestone of over a hundred newsletters posted up (103 to date)- each hike he takes out is documented and posted up with photos of the trip with comments on the weather, the hikers, and incidents occuring along the way. Dave's newsletters are a fasinating read and contain some stunning photographs. As a club we have been really priviledged to have the likes of Dave as a leader. When you have a moment browse through some of Dave's nesletters at www.bergfree.newsletters.htm
PROFESSIONAL HIKERS
While on the topic of professional hikers let me also mention that we have a report by Philip Grant on "An Alternate View Of the Mountains" a very personal perspective of what the Drakensberg and it's peoples have come to mean to Philip. Read Phlips report on our site under the October reports or click on the following link: An Alternate View Of The Mountains
PHOTO OF THE MONTH
PHOTO OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER 2010 goes to Dave's photo taken on a hike in the Highmoor area on a Mountain Shadows weekend PHOTO OF THE MONTH PAGE Intriging pic of a stone cottage, as Dave writes in his report: "Many , many years ago someone had a dream to build a refuge high up , and far way from any visitors. The hut was well built with properly dressed sandstone blocks, windows and doors. Great views of the valley, but so far way. What time and energy to build here , we did not find water there, so maybe in the old days, there might have been – and I suppose that there were not to many buyers who wanted to move there when the originator moved on."

WORLDS VIEW HIKE
WELL DONE also to Neville on leading stalwart hiker Christie and newcomer Cindy on the Worlds View Hike. Thank you Christie for your prompt report on the hike and proof that a hike can be enjoyable in spite of a little rain (especially when the Crossways Hotel is at the end of the hike). The three of you do thee club proud. See Christies report at
Worlds View Hike
AND ON A PERSONAL NOTE...
Back in August 2007 I mentioned I had planted some aloes outside my front gate, now, apart from the sunbird which I haven't managed to photograph, I do have photos of some other visitors to my aloes - first pic is just of the aloe in flower, second of bees attracted to the flowers and the third of a crafty bluehead lizard attracted presumeably to the bees
Keep well! See you on a hike and please keep the photos from your hikes coming in - email them to me at rodhart@psyc.co.za
