ESTEEMED MHC LEADER SPOTTED SPORTING NEW HIKING GEAR

Photographed (I suspect surreptitiously) sporting what may politely be refered to as his "briefs" this new approach to hiking/leisure wear has definite advantages:
1. The upper part of the thighs which are so strikingly white would be easy to follow at dusk/night
2. As demonstrated in the photos the level of the last river or crossing is retained as a watermark across the briefs
It must be stressed that this was a "TEST" of practicality of the new hiking gear and other leaders are not necessarily encouraged to adopt it unless it proves popular. As we were not provided with a frontal view it is not certain whether or not the new slim style hiking briefs are embroidered with the MHC logo. I am sure this could however be arranged for Leaders wishing to be really upfront with the fashion.
The new sales pitch for this trendy hiking gear is thought to be: "Go Green with Briefs you can Hike in"

.
Though I can't mention names due the explicit nature of the photos - I must say that his colour coordination could do with a bit of work...

The overwhelming lack of activity on Rod's Spot has been due to work and UNISA assignment commitments - my last Research assignment was handed in at 2:00am of the last day! Sam and I have however been attending the MHC social meetings (though we did miss the quiz nite). The GoHiking website has now also been brought fully up to date - have a look at my new selection of "Photo of the Month" (March, April and May are new entries) Photo Of the Month.

Allison's report back, at the February social, on their Mt Kenya hike was outstanding - I believe she had literally thousands of photos to sort through and we were treated to an adventure of our own following their photo trail up the mountain. I know it is old news now but if you did miss it for just a glimpse of what we were presented with see the report Climbing Mt.Kenya.I especially enjoyed the decription of the Landrover journey - see following pic!

At March's social we were treated to the fascinating talk by Mark Brown on what Dave Sclanders calls "LBJ's" (little-brown-jobs) namely on Birds in the Midlands and Berg in particular - Mark has an obvious dedication to his speciality and was intriguing to listen to.

Equally fascinating was the following month's meeting where I certainly came away with renewed assurance of the professionalism of the emergency resources that can be called up when a hiker gets into trouble in the Berg. Besides our proud heritage of the Berg it appears we should be equally proud of the teams and systems that are available to evacuate us should the need arise. Well done to the Mountain Rescue Club.

See you at the next social meeting on Tuesday 19th June
